The Ink Flag Memorial – Eilat Day

Written and photos by Nahum Eisenstadt

Our last stop was a short city tour and explanation of the last operation of the War on Independence in March 1949. The picture is taken at the statue commemorating the raising of the “Ink Flag” by Bren (Avraham Eden), the Negev Palmach batallion commander. In the background is one of the many adobe huts that existed when the Negev Palmach soldiers reached Um Rash Rash as Eilat was called until March 1949.
